Sony Ericsson Open 2012 Day 3 Results: Kim Clijsters Returns From Ankle Injury In Miami

Kim Clijsters’s last victory was a toppling of then-world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.

She lost the next round to current world No.1 Victoria Azarenka.

Two months later, Azarenka is still undefeated, and Clijsters is back to playing matches after being sidelined with nagging ankle injuries.

The 28-year-old Belgian mother won Wednesday in a first round match in Miami.

She beat Jarmila Gajdosova 4-6, 6-1, 6-0

The unseeded Clijsters will face No. 14 seed Julia Goerges of Germany in the second round.

Clijsters is a two-time champion of the Florida tournament.

As long as she doesn’t sustain any further injuries, the four-time Grand Slam champion will play out the rest of the year.

From Yahoo!:

Kim Clijsters: My calendar is set and I’m going to finish the whole season, whether it’s playing at the US Open or if I make it back to the top 10 or top 8 and being a part of the championships, we’ll see where it ends. I’m going to play it by ear and then I’ll see how I feel and how I’m doing and how my body feels. For now, everything is set for the Olympics and then we’ll see afterwards.
