2012 Sony Ericsson Open Day 4 Results: Sam Stosur, Caroline Wozniacki And Maria Sharapova All Victors
No. 6 Sam Stosur, No. 4 Caroline Wozniacki and No. 2 Maria Sharapova all won their matches.
Stosur defeated qualifier Valeria Savinykh of Russia, 6-4, 6-0 in one hour and one minute. Stosur slammed six aces and won 86 percent of her first service points.
Wozniacki also won her match against Barbora Zahlavova Strycova of the Czech Republic, 6-4, 6-0. Wozniacki’s match lastest one hour and 35 minutes. She served only one ace but saved 67 percent of break point opportunities.
Sharapova had the longest match of the three seeds when she went three sets with Shahar Peer 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. The match lasted just shy of two hours and 25 minutes. While Sharapova hit six aces, she hit double digits in the double faults column with 11. She also gave Peer 13 break points opportunities. Sharapova did save 10 of those opportunities, though.
On the men’s side, American qualifier Ryan Harrison won in straight sets, 6-7 (6), 6-4, 6-4. He hit 11 aces in his two hour and 22 minute victory against Potito Starace of Italy.
Aussie teenager Bernad Tomic also advanced in the Sony Ericsson Open. He won in straight sets 7-6 (4), 6-3.
