2012 Sony Ericsson Open Day 10 Results: Americans Andy Roddick And Serena Williams Gone From Key Biscayne

Well, it wasn’t a great day for all of the Americans.

After upsetting Roger Federer last night, No. 31 seed Andy Roddick couldn’t keep the buzz around his game.

The 30-year-old Roddick lost on Day 10 to No. 21 seed Juan Monaco in straight sets, 7-5, 6-0. The match lasted one hour and 40 minutes.

Long rallies in the first set wore Roddick down. From the AP:

“I just didn’t have it physically,” Roddick said. “I got to about 4-all, and I was - you know, I’m out of shape. That’s it.”

Then there’s Serena Williams. She fought her way to a 6-4, 6-4 match against No. 4 seed Caroline Wozniacki, but the match didn’t go in Williams’ favor.

“I made her run,” Wozniacki said.

While the powerhouse American hit 34 winners, she also made 36 unforced errors. Wozniacki’s numbers were both in the low teens.

“I probably played about 20 percent,” Williams said. “I just made a tremendous amount of errors. There’s no reason for that. I’m older and I shouldn’t do that. There’s no excuse. I’ve just got to stop that. It’s silly.”

American Mardy Fish did have a good day. He battled three sets to defeat No. 12 seed Nicolas Almagro of Spain, 6-3, 6-7 (2), 6-3 in two hours and 35 minutes. Fish hit 16 aces and Almagro hit 14, but Fish walked away winning an outrageous 96 percent of his first service points.

No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic, No. 2 seed Rafael Nadal, No. 4 seed Andy Murray and No. 6 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga all advanced in the ATP bracket. No. 2 Maria Sharapova joined Wozniacki with victories in the WTA bracket.
