On Tuesday, both Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray announced they would be skipping their respective country’s Davis Cup action next month.

Djokovic will not be in the lineup when Serbia faces the Czech Republic. Then again, he wasn’t in the lineup when the Serbs faced Sweden. Serbia won that first-round match 4-1.
The world’s top-ranked player will rest while No. 9 Janko Tipsarevic and No. 27 Viktor Troicki play. Djokovic hasn’t played for his country since they lost to Argentina in September.
Then there’s Andy Murray. He gave the country of Great Britain a devastating blow when he chose to also miss out instead of taking part in the extra matches of Davis Cup play.
Great Britain is in a tie and will face Belgium. The announcement isn’t really huge news, though. Murray hinted at the possibility of not playing for his country if he did well in the Sony Ericsson Open. He is currently in the fourth round.

The tie comes at a difficult time for the world No4 in the key transition period between hard-court and clay-court stretches of the season, and he is keen to stay in the US and work with his coach Ivan Lendl.
