Venus Williams is back to the WTA tour, back to the top 100 and back to winning.

The former world No. 1 opened the Family Circle Cup in Charleston, S.C., on Tuesday with a straight-sets victory against Iveta Benesova, 6-4, 6-3.

After a successful run last week in Key Biscayne, Fla., at the Sony Ericsson Open, in which Williams won four matches in her first tournament since Sept. 2011, the American star jumped 47 places in the rankings from No. 134 to No. 87 in the world.

From the WTA:

“Miami was definitely a whirlwind,” Williams said. “All the points were going so fast, and I was just living in the moment, and a lot of the times I ended up the victor at the end of these matches and didn’t really know how it happened.”

“I feel calmer here. I feel more match tough, as they say. Hopefully the whirlwind will die down and I’ll hopefully get used to getting a lot of wins.”

Williams will face No. 7 seed Jelena Jankovic in the second round.
