Davis Cup 2012 Quarterfinals, France Vs. USA: John Isner Wins Clinching Match
John Isner powered the United States team to the semifinals of the 2012 Davis Cup on Sunday, winning the clinching match of a 3-2 victory over France.
Isner scored a 6-3, 7-6 (4) 5-7, 6-3 win over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga on Sunday to give the Americans an unassailable 3-1 lead on the French at the Monte Carlo Country Club, and earned two of the U.S.‘s three victories in the round, having previously defeated Gilles Simon in three sets.

The United States advanced to the semifinals of the Davis Cup on Sunday with John Isner’s win over France’s Jo-Wilifried Tsonga. It’s the first tim the U.S. has advanced this far in Davis Cup play in four years. The tall American defeated Tsonga with his rocket serve en route to a 6-3, 7-6 (4) 5-7, 6-3 win. Tsonga broke Isner’s serve only once during the match, losing in front of a partisan crowd at Monte Carlo Country Club.
