Serena Williams said this today (from the WTA):
Family Circle Cup Day 6 Results: Serena Williams Has Best Match Of Her Career Against Sam Stosur, Williams Says
“I have to say this is probably the best match I’ve played in my career either in a long time or it’s up there in the Top 5.”
Williams is talking about her match against No. 2 seed Sam Stosur.
The match she’s talking about was a re-match of the 2011 U.S. Open finals (which Stosur won) and a re-match of the 2012 Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne, Fla. just last week (which Williams won).
This match at the Family Circle Cup in Charleston, S.C., also went to Williams.
In 58 minutes.
In just 14 games.
The final score was 6-1, 6-1.
”Sam is such an excellent clay court player, and she’s Top 10, Top 5, so playing someone that’s so good and doing so well is honestly a really good match for me.
“It was one of those days I could have done anything against anybody. Maybe I could have beaten Andy again. I’m definitely ready for him now — just today.”
Williams hit 29 winners. She will face the No. 9 seed Lucie Safarova, who defeated her semifinal opponent in a double bagel match.
