A 58-minute victory wasn’t the milestone for Serena Williams during the final round of the Family Circle Cup.
Family Circle Cup Final Results: Serena Williams Wins 40th WTA Title
A 40th career WTA title? That was the milestone and Wiliams gave up only one game in the process. She beat Lucie Safarova 6-0, 6-1.
This victory came just a day after Williams defeated No. 2 seed Sam Stosur, 6-1, 6-1. That match also took only 58 minutes. She called that match one of the top 5 matches, if not the best of her career, and she wants to keep this streak going.
From the WTA:
“I hope I can make it three and four and five and six and more and more and more,” she said. “I definitely want to continue this. I’ve never played consistently at such a high level with low errors like this, and the scary thing is I could have served so much better.”
Williams dropped only 15 games in Charleston, S.C., last week. Her 40th title places her third on the list of active players. Kim Clijsters has 41 and older sister Venus has 43. This WTA title is Williams’s fourth on clay.
