Italian Open 2012: Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer All Into Rome Semifinal

Day 7 of the Italian Open features a rematch of current and former world No. 1’s on the men’s side and a rematch of French Open champions on the women’s side.

Rafael Nadal, who said on Day 6 that he is playing the best clay tennis of his life, faces countrymen David Ferrer.

From the Italian Open:

“To play David I will run and fight a lot and I have to play better than in Barcelona,” suggested Nadal. “I don’t stop and its very difficult to play against him because he pushes all the time and I think I can do it. It is normal to lose a set and to lose a set against David is terrible. He is a very high level. I know I have to play my best tennis like today - to the limit and tomorrow is another day and I will do it.”

Then current world No. 1, Novak Djokovic, and former world No. 1 Roger Federer face off in the other semifinal match.

The French Open champions kick off the day on the clay in Rome. Li Na faces Serena Williams, who is coming off a match in which her opponent retired at 4-0 (In Williams’ favor) in the first set.

Maria Sharapova will take on Angelique Kerber in the other semifinal match.
