Rafael Nadal To Carry Spain’s Flag In Opening Ceremony

At London’s opening ceremonies -- in just 36 days -- Nadal will be carrying something else for his home country of Spain: the Spanish flag.
The Spanish Olympic Committee decided Wednesday that their 11-time Grand Slam tennis champion would lead Team Spain into the opening ceremonies July 27.
The matches will be played from July 28 to Aug, 5 on the grass courts of Wimbledon. Two of Rafa’s 11 Slam titles came on that grass.
Also, Nadal, the world’s second-ranked men’s singles player, will defend his 2008 Gold medal during his third Olympics. He will also be playing doubles with Marcel Granollers.
From the AP:
“For me the chance to carry the flag representing all the Spanish athletes in London is a true honor,” Nadal said in a statement. “I think carrying the flag will be one of the most moving moments of my entire career.
“I can only say thanks and wish my fellow athletes the best of luck.”
