Serena Williams: ‘I Have No Intention Of Stopping’

The 30-year-old age tag and 13 Grand Slam titles doesn’t mean Serena Williams is slowing down.

It doesn’t even really mean she’s stopping. She’s going to be staying in the game. And don’t ask about her older sister, Venus, either. The Williams sisters are committed to tennis.

From the AP:

“I have no intention of stopping, and I don’t think she does either. We’re definitely connected at the hip,” Williams said Saturday “I enjoy being out there on the court so much.”

Her last court appearance didn’t go so well. Think French Open. Opening round. The world’s No. 111 ranked female singles player across the net. Three sets later, Serena’s name had the loss next to it.

To be fair, that’s her first opening-round loss in 47 Grand Slam appearances.

Now, two days remain until she steps out onto the grass courts of the All-England Club. It will be another year at Wimbledon, where Williams added four championship titles to her trophy case.

“I love competing. I love the challenge. I love holding up trophies. So I guess if ever I feel that I can’t do that, then maybe I won’t play anymore.”

On a bit of a roll, she continued: “That’s what I love. I love stepping out on that court, having that atmosphere, that moment. That moment is all about me. Maybe it’s a little selfish, but I love that feeling.”
