The top of the women’s draw at the 2012 Championships at Wimbledon took another hit Wednesday when No. 7 Caroline Wozniacki fell to Austria’s Tamira Paszek in three sets, 5-7, 7-6 (11), 6-4. Wozniacki joins No. 5 Samantha Stosur as the other major upset on the day at the All England Club.
2012 Wimbledon Scores: Caroline Wozniacki Upset In 1st Round
The match picked up tied 2-2 in the first set from Tuesday with Wozniacki serving. The former world No. 1 was able to take 50 percent of her opponent’s serves in the set, winning three break points.
Wozniacki started to falter from there, however. In the second set she scored on 40 percent of Paszek serves. That number dipped to 38 percent in the third. Wozniacki’s serve also became sloppier. She scored on just 47 percent of her eligible first serves, and 50 percent of her second serves in the final set.
Peszek remained aggressive throughout the match, scoring 54 winners to 31 for Wozniacki, and as a result will be advancing to the second round of the tournament.
