2012 Wimbledon Scores: Andy Roddick Wins 1st Round Match Wednesday

No. 25 Andy Roddick finally finished his first round match at the 2012 Championships at Wimbledon on Wednesday with a 7-6 (8), 6-4, 7-5 win over Great Britain’s Jamie Baker. The match was suspended Tuesday in the second set due to fading light.

Roddick’s powerful serve was on full display. He served up 14 aces for the match to six for Baker. Roddick placed 75 percent of his first serves in play, scoring on 72 percent. Baker was only able to put 63 percent of his first serves in, and scored on just 50 percent of his second serves. That number dipped to 43 percent in the third set.

Roddick is the second-highest American remaining in the tournament, next to No. 12 Mardy Fish. No. 10 John Isner was upset in the first round by Spain’s Alejandro Falla.
