That age-old WTA topic is back again: grunting.
Maria Sharapova Is As Loud As A Food Processor
Sure, the WTA is in the midst of its busiest schedule with Wimbledon in full swing and the London Olympics only a month away. So, why are we still talking about this issue?
Because it’s exactly that: an issue.
Yeah. We’re all sick of hearing about it, but let’s break it down the noise better to, well, every-day-noise terms.
Per the AP:
To a decibel meter, Sharapova might as well be a food processor.
The Williams sisters? They sound like a subway car roaring by. Victoria Azarenka? A monster truck.
A monster truck? Seriously? Now we’re going to guess well over 50 percent of Americans shudder at the sound of a monster truck, so why is it okay for a lady to sound like one? And we all know it’s not just those four women who make some noise.
On the flip side: There is such a thing as a “hindrance rule.” Anyone ever heard the chair umpire call that on a player?
Looks like there’s still a long way to go. For now, I ask you to raise your cups of Wimby’s strawberries and cream in a toast to another try.
As much as the WTA loves having its stars seen during the fortnight at Wimbledon, it’s doesn’t necessarily want them to be heard - at least not during matches.
