A not-so-well-known player from Kazakhstan knocked out an oh-so-well-known Grand Slam defending champion Monday.
French Open Results: Defending Champion Li Na Knocked Out By Qualifier
Yaroslava Shvedova eliminated 2011 French Open champion Li Na. Shvedova is ranked No. 142 in the world. She is a qualifier in this year’s Roland Garros.
The defending champion came into the tournament as the No. 6 seed. On Monday, she took the opening set, but was only able to win two of the next fourteen games. Li Na was knocked from the fourth round of play in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-0.
