The 2012 BB&T Atlanta Open continued Thursday with second-round action. The No. 1 and No. 2 seeds both took to the court, but only one advanced onto the next round.
2012 BB&T Atlanta Open: John Isner Advances, Mardy Fish Forced To Withdraw
No. 1 seed John Isner lost the first set to Ruben Bemelmans, but rallied back to win the second and third sets to advance. Isner dropped the first 4-6 before winning 6-3, 6-4. No. 2 seed Mardy Fish appeared to be headed toward a win, but was forced to retire from the match during the second set due to an ankle sprain. Fish won the first set 6-4 and was up 3-2 in the second set before he injured his ankle and was unable to continue.
American James Blake’s run will not continue as he fell Thursday to Matthew Ebden. Blake won the tiebreaker to take the first set 7-6 but Ebden was the next two sets 6-4 to move on. Jack Sock also punched a ticket to the next round with his 7-6, 7-6 win against Steve Johnson.
