Wimbledon 2012 Scores: Serena Williams Advances To Quarterfinals

Venus Williams was upset very early at Wimbledon this year, but her sister, Serena Williams, is having better luck at the All England Club. After narrowly escaping with a win in the third round, sixth-ranked Serena was again able to advance through Round 4 early Monday morning.

Williams, facing Yaroslava Shvedova, earned a 6-1, 2-6, 7-5 victory on Court 2 in the morning’s first match. Shvedova isn’t the most well-known name in the tournament, but the Russian was on a roll as she had upset 10 seed Sara Errani prior to facing Williams.

Williams will now face the winner of the match between Francesca Schiavone and Petra Kvitova in the quarterfinals. SB Nation’s own Bill Connelly predicts that match should go the way of Kvitova, setting up Williams with Wimbledon’s reigning champ.

A clay-court specialist, Schiavone has impressed to make it this far; it’s hard to imagine she has the offense to take out the defending Wimbledon champ.
