Maria Sharapova’s upset of Sabine Lisicki on Monday at the 2012 Championship at Wimbledon sent shockwaves at the All England Club. Following the match, eyes turned to No. 2 Victoria Azarenka who became the new top-seeded player on the women’s draw. Azarenka didn’t disappoint, dispatching No. 14 Ana Ivanovic in two sets, 6-1, 6-0.

The match lasted just a hair over an hour, as Azarenka played impeccable tennis. She committed just six unforced errors, while notching 19 winners. She won 63 of 97 total points played. Azarenka broke Ivanovic six times in eight chances, and successfully defended all three of her opponent’s break opportunities.
No. 3 Roger Federer advanced on the men’s draw, but had trouble at times in his 7-6 (8), 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, win over Belgium’s Xavier Malisse. The Swiss champion struggled defending serves in a dropped third set, as Malisse scored on 89 percent of his eligible first serves. Federer’s experience ultimately played out, however. He won six of seven break chances, compared to 3-of-11 for Malisse.
