Winston-Salem Open 2012 Daily Recap: Andy Roddick Defeats James Blake

Andy Roddick defeated fellow American James Blake in the most notable match in the second round of the Winston-Salem Open on Monday.

Roddick overcame a tough start and downed Blake 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (8-6). Roddick had 11 aces to move to 9-3 against Blake in his career. Roddick admitted afterward he was fortunate to earn the win while not on top of his game and after Blake came out to a hot start.

Elsewhere in the tournament, David Goffin rallied against No. 10-ranked Viktor Troicki for a 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 upset win. No. 7-ranked Sam Querrey won his first set against Santiago Giraldo 6-3 before the match was suspended due to rain. In a first-round match, American Donald Young rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Leonardo Mayer.
