2012 U.S. Open Scores: Ekaterina Makarova, Bruno Soares Capture Mixed Doubles Championship

Ekaterina Makarova of Russia and Bruno Soares of Brazil won the mixed doubles championship at the 2012 U.S. Open on Thursday afternoon, when the pair defeated Kveta Peschke of the Czech Republic and Marcin Matkowski of Poland in a super tiebreak, 7(10) - 6(8), 6-1, 1(12) - 0(10).

The team of Makarova and Soares managed two aces and one double fault compared to the four aces and three double faults by Peschke and Matkowski. Markarova and Soares also registered 27 winners to their opponents’ 23, while both sides ended the match with 10 unforced errors apiece.

Makarova entered in the women’s doubles tournament as well, but was eliminated with her partner Elena Vesnina in the third round. Soares also advanced deep into the men’s doubles, but was eliminated in the quarterfinal round with teammate Alexander Peya.
