The Australian Open continues on Friday with Day 5 action from Melbourne; the top half of the men’s bracket and the bottom half of the women’s draw will play their third-round matches. Novak Djokovic, David Ferrer, Tomas Berdych and Sam Querrey, the last remaining American man, are all in action on Day 5. The women’s side is highlighted by a match between Maria Sharapova and Venus Williams.

Day 5 of the Australian Open will see Novak Djokovic back in action as well as a battle between Venus Williams and Maria Sharapova.

No. 20 Querrey will face No. 15 Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland on Margaret Court Arena. Both men advanced to the third round due to a player retirement; Querrey advanced after fellow American Brian Baker tore his meniscus early in the second set. Querrey has lost both previous meetings with Wawrinka, but the two have not played each other since the 2010 U.S. Open. With a win, Querrey would likely face Novak Djokovic, who takes on No. 31 Radek Stepanek. Fourth-seed Ferrer will take on No. 28 Marcos Baghdatis and No. 5 Berdych will play No. 26 Jurgen Melzer.
Williams and No. 2 Sharapova are set to play at 7 p.m. local time (3 a.m ET) on Rod Laver Arena in the featured match of the day. Sharapova has been dominant thus far, not dropping a single game in her first two matches. Williams, seeded 25th, trails the lifetime series four matches to three.
Another American woman, 17-year-old Madison Keys, will take on No. 5 Angelique Kerber of Germany at 11 a.m local time (7 p.m. ET) to kick off Day 5 on Rod Laver Arena.
The Tennis Channel and ESPN2 will carry coverage for the American audience on Day 5. Tennis Channel coverage will air from 7-11 p.m. ET, and ESPN2 will pick up coverage from 11 p.m. through 7 a.m ET Friday morning.
