Sony Open Tennis 2013: Schedule, draw and more

Two matches featuring four Americans will headline Wednesday’s Round 1 action during the Sony Open.

Americans James Blake and Ryan Harrison will headline first-round action on the stadium court in a match scheduled not to begin before 7:30 p.m. ET at the Sony Open on Wednesday.

The 20-year-old Harrison is hoping to break out in 2013, and there is no better stage early on in the season than in South Florida. Gifted athletically and seen as the next great hope in American men’s tennis, his finish in this event is worth following.

He’ll have to get through Blake, though, a 10-time winner and former Olympian. It’s unfortunate that the two are facing one another early on, but it figures to make for an exciting match in the night cap on Wednesday.

Elsewhere on Wednesday, the women will take the court with two young Floridians as the marquee matchup in the first round. Madison Keys and Allie Kiick are set to take on one another on Court 1 in a match slated for a start not before 5 p.m. ET. Kiick, a 17-year-old from Plantation, Fla., defeated Vania King 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 in the final qualifying round to advance into the tournament.

The 18-year-old Keys is ranked No. 76 in the world and will give Kiick, who is committed to the University of Florida, a true test early on.
