It was quiet finish to Round 1 of the 2013 French Open on Tuesday, with few underdogs mounting much, if any, challenge to favored opponents. No. 1 Novak Djokovic’s match against Belgium’s David Goffin was the highlight of the day on the men’s draw. Djokovic ultimately won in straight sets, but not before surviving a 12-point tiebreak in the first set. Goffin played Djokovic tight throughout the match, but Djokovic was the more polished player, committing 31 unforced errors to 38 for Goffin for a 7-6 (12), 6-4, 7-5 win to advance.
French Open results 2013: Djokovic advances Tuesday, among other favorites
Ranked singles players didn’t run into much trouble Tuesday at the 2013 French Open, though No. 1 Novak Djokovic and No. 13 Marion Bartoli both had brief scares.

Djokovic’s match was delayed due to a marathon battle on the women’s side. No. 13 Marion Bartoli of France survived a major scare, in a match that was delayed two hours due to rain. It took 18 tiebreak points to finally top Olga Govortsova in the first set, to which the Belarusian responded by taking the second set, 6-4. Govortsova went up 5-3 in the third set, but Bartoli saved match point twice to storm back and win 7-6 (18), 4-6, 7-5.
No. 9 Samantha Stosur, the highest ranked player in the women’s draw Tuesday, had a much easier time against Japan’s Kimiko Date-Krumm, winning 6-2, 6-0.
