Both of the top seeds at the 2015 Australian Open are still in the tournament and into the quarterfinals. Monday’s matches (local time) saw men’s top seed Novak Djokovic and women’s top seed Serena Williams take down their opponents, though one struggled more than the other.

Williams was actually on upset watch as she dropped the opening set to No. 24 Garbine Muguruza. Williams offered up little resistance in said opening set, but didn’t let the pressure get to her. She came back to take the next two and the win, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. The matches only get tougher from here on, though, as she advances to the quarterfinals where she’ll be playing No. 11 seed Dominika Cibulkova.

Cibulkova was facing an unseeded Victoria Azarenka on Monday, a tough outing to be sure. Cibulkova was also forced to three sets, but held on to best Azarenka, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

Djokovic didn’t have much trouble at all dispatching unseeded Gilles Muller in his match, winning 6-4, 7-5, 7-5. Muller had taken down No. 19 seed John Isner in the third round but Djokovic, the favorite to win the tournament, was a step above him on Monday.

In the quarterfinals, Djokovic will face the eighth-seeded Milos Raonic. Djokovic should be better-rested, as Raonic was taken to five sets against Feliciano Lopez on Monday. Lopez, the No. 12 seed, took the second and fourth sets but couldn’t close it out. Raonic won, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 6-7 (7-9), 6-3.

The other men’s matchups saw No. 4 seed Stan Wawrinka down Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in four sets (including a thrilling fourth-set tiebreak) and Kei Nishikori, the tournament’s fifth seed, dominate No. 9 David Ferrer in straight sets. The other women’s matches saw No. 18 Venus Williams upset No. 6 seed Agnieszka Radwanska, 6-3, 2-6, 6-1, and Madison Keys take down Madison Brengle, 6-2, 6-4.

The quarterfinals will get underway on Tuesday (again, local time -- the matches begin on Monday night and run through Tuesday morning in the United States), with players like Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Maria Sharapova and Simona Halep set to play.
