The first day of the 2015 French Open began Sunday morning at Roland Garros. Day 1 was short on upsets, though not on drama, thanks to Roger Federer and a selfie-loving fan. Federer, the highest-seeded player to take the court Sunday, handled opponent Alejandro Falla of Colombia, 6-3, 6-3, 6-4. However, a young fan who rushed the court in an attempt to take a picture with Federer is what unnerved the Swiss superstar.
French Open results 2015: Roger Federer advances, sounds off on security
Four seeded players lost on the first day of the tournament, but the big story was an angry Federer.

Blasting security at the French Open, Federer said, “I’m not happy about it. Obviously not one second I’m happy about it. It happened yesterday in the practice, too.” It’s not the first time it’s happened to Federer, who called for a change in how Roland Garros handles security -- a fan also came onto the court during his win in the 2009 French Open final.
Although Gilbert Ysern apologized to Federer, the French Open director said via The Associated Press, “there is no reason for us to change the security procedures.”
Other than an angry Federer, the only upsets on the men’s side came to No. 25 Ivo Karlovic and No. 26 Guillermo Garcia-Lopez. Karlovic fell to Greece’s Marcos Baghdatis in three sets, while American Steve Johnson took down Garcia-Lopez in a thrilling five-set victory.
On the women’s side, two seeded players were also sent home. No. 24 Peng Shuai of China retired due to an injury in her second set against Polona Hercog. Meanwhile, 18-year-old Croatian Donna Vekic defeated No. 31 Caroline Garcia, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. The highest of the women’s seeds to play Sunday, No. 3 Simona Halep, easily won her match against Evgeniya Rodina, 7-5, 6-4.
Lauren Davis was able to take one set against Croatia’s Mirjana Lucic-Baroni, but the 21-year-old failed to advance. Fellow American Louisa Chirico also fell, losing in straight sets to ninth-seeded Ekaterina Makarova.
