The 2016 Australian Open shifts to the third round on Friday in Melbourne, which begins on Thursday evening for those of us in the United States. Top seeds Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams are in action for third-round matchups on Friday, as are top names Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova.

Djokovic, the winner of three of four Grand Slam tournaments in 2015 and the Australian Open champion in four of the last five years, including 2015, advanced to the third round with a pair of straight set victories over Hyeon Chung and Quentin Halys in the first two rounds.

Djokovic on Friday will face Italian Andreas Seppi, the 28th seed, in the third round. In his career, Djokovic is 11-0 against Seppi, including a straight-set win in the Round of 32 at the 2015 U.S. Open.

Williams has also breezed through a pair of straight-set victories to advance to the third round, and will face on Friday 18-year-old Russian Daria Kasatkina, the 69th-ranked singles player in the world.

Federer, the No. 3 seed on the men’s side, needs a win over No. 27 Grigor Dimitrov on Friday for the 300th Grand Slam singles win in his career. With a straight-sets win on Wednesday, Federer moved into the third round at the Australian Open for the 17th consecutive season.

“It’s the least I expect to be in the third round of a Slam, obviously, so I’m pumped up, playing well, feeling good,” Federer told the Associated Press on Wednesday. “But there’s always a danger, you know. Like last year the third round was the end for me, so I hope to go further this time.”

The No. 5 seed Sharapova has dropped only seven total games in her two wins so far in Melbourne. She will face American Lauren Davis, who reached the third round of a Grand Slam singles tournament for the third time in her career.

Live coverage of Friday’s matches begins at 11 p.m. ET Thursday on ESPN2, with the network televising eight straight hours of tennis overnight, followed by a repeat of select same-day action on Friday from 3-6 p.m.

In addition, every match will be available online via Watch ESPN, with Tennis Channel also providing online coverage.
