2016 Australian Open: Time, TV schedule and live stream for Serena Williams vs. Angelique Kerber

Kerber vs. Williams will decide the 2016 Australian Open champion, though many feel Williams is guaranteed the win.

There are only two days left at the 2016 Australian Open. On the final day, men’s top seed Novak Djokovic will face No. 2 Andy Murray for the first major title of the year, but first the other singles bracket has to wrap up. That bracket will end with a matchup between No. 1 seed Serena Williams, the tournament favorite and defending champion, and No. 7 seed Angelique Kerber.

Kerber is playing in her first-ever major final, after losing her previous two semifinal matches. The lefty has played the best tennis of her career in Melbourne, but Williams is as tough a challenge as you can get in women’s tennis. That’s been the case for a long, long time, and Williams has all the stats to prove it.

Williams is going for her 22nd Grand Slam title, is 21-4 in Grand Slam finals, 8-0 in major finals over the last four seasons and has beaten Kerber all but one of the times they have played. Kerber downed Williams once in 2012, but Williams won their last meeting back in 2014.

But all hope is not lost for Kerber, who has broken her opponents 33 times in this year’s tournament and has won her last 14 sets. She has plenty of confidence heading into her big match and Williams has been known to slip up on occasion. Rarely does she slip up on such a big stage, but if Kerber plays the same strong return game she’s played all tournament, she has a chance.

Saturday’s matches at the Australian Open get underway on Friday evening in the United States, though the match between Williams and Kerber will take place early Saturday morning, at roughly 3 a.m. ET. Television coverage of that match will be carried by ESPN, and a live stream will be available at WatchESPN.
