How to watch French Open Week 1 online

All matches at the French Open will be available to stream online. Here’s how you can watch the opening week of play.

Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

The 2016 French Open is here, and for the first time in a very long time, we’ll see an opening round that doesn’t include either Roger Federer or Maria Sharapova. The former is out with an injury that has been with him for most of the year, while the latter is waiting for news on how long she will be suspended for a positive drug test.

That means there won’t be any showdown between Rafael Nadal and Federer, and Sharapova won’t take yet another shot at trying to unseat Serena Williams, concepts that have been Grand Slam mainstays for some time.

Nadal is the fourth seed of the tournament, and he’s not the defending champion as he has been so many times before. He was taken out early last year, losing to Novak Djokovic, the top seed then and now, in the quarterfinals. Stan Wawrinka, the defending champion, will also be in action.

The first week of play will see play through the third round of action at Roland Garros. The players in action on Day 1 include No. 5 seed Kei Nishikori and No. 8 seed Milos Raonic for the men and No. 4 Garbine Muguruza and No. 6 Simona Halep for the women.

Television coverage of the first week of play will be shared by the Tennis Channel and NBC, though the latter network will only broadcast on two of the days. They will have broadcasts at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, May 22 and at noon on May 28, with the rest of the coverage beginning at 4 or 5 a.m. on the Tennis Channel.

Live streaming of every match at the tournament will be available at NBC Sports Live Extra and other coverage via the Tennis Channel.
