2016 French Open scores: Stan Wawrinka, Andy Murray both struggle on Day 2

Stan Wawrinka, the defending champion at Roland Garros, was pushed to five sets against his opening round opponent on Monday.

It was a tough first round for two of the top-seeded men at the 2016 French Open, as No. 3 Stan Wawrinka was pushed to five sets against Lukas Rosol, while No. 2 Andy Murray had his match postponed in the fourth set after falling down 2-1 to Radek Stepanek.

Wawrinka ultimately bested Rosol, winning 4-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Murray fell down two sets to love against Stepanek before beginning to rebound, and will finish his match on Tuesday after bad light postponed it. Currently, Stepanek has the lead at 6-3, 6-3, 0-6, 2-4.

The top-seeded woman on the day, No. 2 Agnieszka Radwanska, had no trouble besting Bojana Jovanovski, 6-0, 6-2, and cruised into the second round without issue.

The top two seeds from either side on the first day of play at Roland Garros, Kei Nishikori and Garbine Muguruza, had their matches postponed to Monday due to a weather delay. Nishikori finished up his match, which was already in its third set when he started on Monday, and the men’s No. 5 seed easily took down Italy’s Simone Bolelli, 6-1, 7-5, 6-3. Muguruza, the women’s fourth seed, was pushed to a third set against Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, but ultimately won, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.

There were two notable upsets of top-10 seeds on the day: No. 10 Marin Cilic for the men is out after falling to Marco Trungelliti in four sets, 7-6(4), 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. The other big upset saw women’s No. 7 seed Roberta Vinci fall to Kateryna Bondarenko in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3.
