Third-round play at the 2016 French Open saw plenty of action on Friday, but the biggest news to come out of the tournament on the day was Rafael Nadal dropping from the tournament due to a wrist injury. Nadal, the “King of Clay,” has won more at the French Open than any other player but he exited in the quarterfinals when Novak Djokovic beat him last year and this time around he’s gone even quicker.
2016 French Open results: Andy Murray looks sharp, Agnieszka Radwanska advances on Friday
Both of the No. 2 seeds, Andy Murray and Agnieszka Radwanska, found victory on Friday at the 2016 French Open.

Djokovic is now the heavy favorite to win this year’s tournament. He will have some competition though, including the man who beat him for the title at Roland Garros a year ago, Stan Wawrinka. The third seed of the tournament, Wawrinka took on No. 30 Jeremy Chardy on Friday, and came out with a straight-sets victory, 6-4, 6-3, 7-5.
No. 2 seed Andy Murray will also hope to challenge Djokovic and prevent him from winning his first title at the French Open. Murray was struggling in the opening rounds though, being pushed to five sets in each of his first two matchups. But Murray made short work of his toughest opponent yet, besting No. 27 seed Ivo Karlovic, 6-1, 6-4, 7-6(3).
On the women’s side, fellow No. 2 seed Agnieszka Radwanska was pushed to three sets against her first seeded opponent, No. 30 Barbora Strycova. Radwanska did end up winning, 6-2, 6-7(6), 6-2. Other top-seeded women who managed to win their matches include No. 4 Garbine Muguruza and No. 6 Simona Halep. Unfortunately for No. 10 seed Petra Kvitova, she fell in three sets to Shelby Rogers. An unseeded player, Rogers lost the second set but took the other two in dominant fashion, winning 6-0, 6-7(3), 6-0.
