French Open 2016 scores: Agnieszka Radwanska, Simona Halep out and angry after playing in the rain

Rain has eliminated yet another day at the French Open, though this time a couple big matches were able to finish up, to the chagrin of the losers.

Once again, rain has delayed play at the 2016 French Open. After the full day of play was rained out for the first time in 16 years on Monday, all but two matches that were already in progress going into Tuesday managed to reach completion in the singles brackets. It’s a disappointing end to the day for the fans in attendance and everyone eager to see where the tournament goes.

But the matches that did get completed were huge upsets and the women’s singles bracket is going to look a whole lot different going into the quarterfinals. First off, No. 2 seed Agnieszka Radwanska fell to unseeded Tsvetana Pironkova, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. Radwanska held the lead going into the in-progress match on Tuesday, but fell in the end.

Simona Halep, the sixth seed on the women’s side, also carried a lead into Tuesday’s match against Samantha Stosur, the No. 21 seed, but she ultimately lost as well. Stosur took control of the first set and won a tiebreak before dominating the second set, winning 7-6(0), 6-3.

Both Radwanska and Halep were unhappy at having to play in the rain for a time.

“I don’t know who allows us to play in these kind of conditions,” Radwanska said. “I don’t think they really care what we think. I think they care about other things, I guess.”

The French Open is the only remaining Grand Slam that doesn’t have at least a single court able to be played with a roof. The U.S. Open was another holdout, but will have the option available when it gets underway in August. Wimbledon and the Australian Open have had the luxury for some time.

“I have no words,” Halep said after her loss. “It was impossible to play, in my opinion. And to play tennis matches during the rain, I think it’s a bit too much.”

The tournament hit two hours of play on the courts before the day was cancelled. Interestingly enough, two hours is the threshold for having to refund fans for the cost of their tickets. Tournament organizers will refund fans for the totally rained-out Monday, but are not obligated to because just enough tennis was played on Tuesday.

“No one cares about the players, in my opinion.” Halep said. “I don’t care that I lost the match today, but I was close to getting injured with my back, so that’s a big problem. But like I said, no one cares. We have just to go and play.”

Serena Williams, the top seed for the women, is the heavy favorite to win her bracket and earn her 22nd Grand Slam title. Halep was playing very well before her elimination and many thought she might be the only chance at someone unseating Williams, while Radwanska, as the second seed, obviously had high hopes herself.

Round of 16 play for players such as Venus Williams, Novak Djokovic and others will continue on Wednesday, alongside some quarterfinal matches. Djokovic was among the players who was able to start his match against No. 14 seed Roberto Bautista Agut, and that match is tied one set apiece with Djokovic leading 4-1 in the third.

Below are what little results there were from Tuesday:
