French Open 2016: Match times, TV schedule and live stream for Wednesday

Will rain take out another day of play or will we finally see the fourth round wrap up at Roland Garros on Wednesday?

Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

The 2016 French Open will hopefully resume on Wednesday, and if there’s any luck to be had, it will be a full day of exciting matches. That’s been a rarity this year at Roland Garros, as rain has completely wiped out one day and most of a couple others.

Monday saw no matches played for the first time in 16 years at the French Open while Tuesday only had about two hours of court time in total -- just enough for tournament organizers to avoid handing out refunds for tickets. But that two hours of court time was enough to see Agnieszka Radwanska and Simona Halep, the No. 2 and No. 6 seeds, respectively, eliminated in their Round of 16 matches.

Neither player was happy about the conditions they had to play in, implying that organizers didn’t care about the players.

Hopefully, such a controversy can be avoided when all the heavy hitters take the courts on Wednesday to try and catch up with the tournament schedule. All the big names will be in action, including top seeds Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams. It’s an interesting field, especially without Radwanska and Halep, alongside the other players who either could not participate or are already eliminated, including Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Maria Sharapova.

Djokovic will continue his in-progress match against No. 14 Roberto Bautista Agut, tied at one set apiece and with a lead in the third. Tomas Berdych, David Goffin and Dominic Thiem also have in-progress matches, against David Ferrer, Ernests Gulbis and Marcel Granollers, respectively. Andy Murray, the No. 2 seed and Stan Wawrinka, the defending champion, have to start their matches against Richard Gasquet and Albert Ramos-Vinolas.

Williams will be taking on No. 18 Elina Svitolina as she looks to earn her 22nd Grand Slam singles title. She is heavily favored to win it, with nobody left in the field standing out as someone who could legitimately challenge her for the title. Her sister, Venus Williams, is set to take on No. 8 Timea Bacsinszky as well.

Two women’s quarterfinal matchups will get underway as the 21st seed, Samantha Stosur, will take on unseeded Tsvetana Pironkova after the pair took down Halep on Radwanska on Tuesday. No. 4 Garbine Muguruza will also face unseeded American Shelby Rogers in a quarterfinal matchup. Below is the full schedule for Wednesday’s singles brackets.

Television coverage of the day begins at 5 a.m. ET on the Tennis Channel. Online streaming is available at NBC Sports Live Extra and the Tennis Channel.
