The semifinals of the 2016 French Open are just hours away, and the matches promise to be as exciting as ever. Top seeds Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams are still in play and the titles will mean different things for each. For Djokovic, it would complete his career Grand Slam as he has never won at Roland Garros. For Williams, it would mark her fourth title on the clay of the French Open and her 22nd title overall, matching Steffi Graf’s all-time record.
French Open 2016 schedule: Match times, TV coverage and online streaming for Friday
The semifinals of the French Open are set for Friday. Will Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams make it through to the finals?

Standing in their way are Dominic Thiem and Kiki Bertens.
Thiem, the No. 13 seed, is coming off an impressive victory over David Goffin in the quarterfinals. But Djokovic has won both of the matches the two have ever played. One of them was earlier this year at the Miami Masters, with the other coming in Shanghai back in 2014. Both were straight-set victories on a hard surface for Djokovic.
Bertens is an unseeded player who has carved an impressive path through the tournament thus far. She took down No. 8 Timea Bacsinszky in the quarterfinals, right after Bacsinszky eliminated Serena’s sister, Venus. Serena has only gone against Bertens once in the past, at the U.S. Open last year. Williams was pushed to a tiebreak in the first set, but ultimately beat her in straight sets, 7-6(5), 6-3.
The other two matches on the day should be just as exciting. No. 2 seed Andy Murray will be going up against the third seed and defending champion, Stan Wawrinka, on the men’s side. For the women, No. 4 Garbine Muguruza will be taking on No. 21 Samantha Stosur.
Murray against Wawrinka is a finals-caliber matchup for certain. The two have met 15 times over the course of their careers, with Murray narrowly holding an 8-7 edge over Wawrinka. That said, the last three times the two have faced each other, Wawrinka has taken straight-set victories over Murray. That includes a win on the clay of Monaco in 2013 and a victory in the 2013 U.S. Open in the quarterfinals.
The last time they met was 2015. Murray’s last win against Wawrinka came in 2012. They have played twice on clay, with Wawrinka winning both matches.
Muguruza may be the best hope of unseating Williams in this tournament, but she’ll have her hands full with Stosur. The only time the two have met, Stosur walked out with a three-set victory, 7-5, 3-6, 6-1. That was back in 2014, though it was on the clay courts at the Madrid Masters.
Play will begin at 7 a.m. ET, first featuring the women’s semifinals, with the men’s semifinals to come on Philippe-Chatrier Court and Suzanne-Lenglen Court afterward.
Television coverage of the day begins at 7 a.m. ET on the Tennis Channel. NBC will pick up semifinal coverage as well at 11 a.m. Online streaming is available at NBC Sports Live Extra and the Tennis Channel.
