Novak Djokovic vs. Andy Murray, French Open 2016: Time, TV schedule and live stream for men’s final

Djokovic and Murray are no strangers to each other, and both have a common goal of earning their first French Open trophy. Only one of them will walk out with it on Sunday, however.

Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray are the two best men’s singles players in the world, but neither of them has held up a first-place trophy at Roland Garros. Djokovic has reached the finals three times in his career, and he’s held up the runner-up trophy all three times. Murray has never made it to the finals at the French Open, but he knows what it’s like to lose in the finals to Djokovic and will have a similar drive on Sunday.

Djokovic came so close last year but fell to Stan Wawrinka in the finals. Wawrinka was considered his top competition this year as well, as Djokovic has had a much tougher time with him than with Murray over the years. Murray unseated the defending champion in his semifinal matchup in four sets. Djokovic bested Dominic Thiem in his semifinal, but in straight sets.

The last time these two players faced off, Murray came out with a straight set victory. Importantly, that match was played on the clay surface in Rome, the same surface on which the two will be facing off for Sunday’s match. But over the years, Djokovic has lost consecutive matches to Murray only a couple times, with the last time being in 2012. Djokovic was still growing into a dominant player at that point, and most of his wins against Murray came after that.

Overall, Djokovic has won 23 of their 33 matches. He’s also taken 12 of their last 14 meetings and seven of their nine meetings in Grand Slam events. Djokovic is 4-2 against Murray in Grand Slam finals matches. The two are the only pair in the Open Era to contest four Australian Open finals, and one of just two male pairs in the Open Era to have met in each of the four Grand Slam finals.

The final will be broadcast on NBC, starting at 9 a.m. ET It will follow the women’s doubles final, which gets underway at 5:30 a.m. on NBCSN. The match will be available online via NBC Sports as well.
