Andy Murray and Angelique Kerber, the second seeds in both the men’s and women’s singles brackets at the 2016 Rio Olympics, are both favored to earn gold medals. That’s because Novak Djokovic has already fallen on the men’s side, and Serena Williams has also lost in the women’s tournament.
Olympic tennis 2016: Time, TV schedule and live stream for Thursday
After a rain delay cancelled play on Wednesday, tennis should resume in Rio on Thursday.

Williams’ loss was a major blow to the United States, but there are some home hopes still remaining in the bracket. Madison Keys, the seventh seed, is still competing in women’s singles and has a quarterfinals match against Daria Kasatkina set for Thursday.
The match was originally scheduled for Wednesday, though rain caused the entire day of play to be cancelled. No matches were played.
Another American, Steve Johnson, is in men’s singles action against Evgeny Donskoy on Thursday. Murray will be taking on Fabio Fognini, while Rafael Nadal will take on Gilles Simon. Nadal is the third seed in the tournament, while Simon is No. 15. Kerber will face No. 10 Johanna Konta in her match.
Johnson will team up with Jack Sock in the men’s doubles semifinals against Florin Mergea and Horia Tecau. Sock will also team up in first-round action with Bethanie Mattek-Sands in mixed doubles action against Johanna Konta and Jamie Murray of Great Britain. Venus Williams will get one more shot at continuing her Olympic bid when she teams up with Rajeev Ram against Kiki Bertens and Jean-Julien Rojer.
