Serena Williams may be out, but the United States has a woman in the singles semifinals at the 2016 Rio Olympics. On Thursday, seventh-seeded Madison Keys continued her Olympic run with a straight-set victory over Daria Kasatkina, 6-3, 6-1.
Olympics 2016 tennis results and scores: USA’s Madison Keys into semifinals; Venus Williams wins in mixed doubles
America still has hope for a medal in women’s singles despite both of the Williams sisters being eliminated.

The U.S. saw Venus Williams eliminated in the first round and Serena eliminated in the third round already. To make matters worse, the Williams sisters were eliminated from doubles play and three of four American men were eliminated from singles play on the very first day. It’s not been a great tournament for the U.S.
Fortunately, Keys is into the semifinals, and the U.S. got some other good news on Thursday as well. Venus Williams, who was dealing with a virus and looked rather depleted in her singles and doubles matchups, elected to take part in mixed doubles opposite Rajeev Ram. After losing the first set, Williams and Ram stormed back to take down Kiki Bertens and Jean-Julien Rojer in the mixed doubles match.
Steve Johnson, the only American man still in the singles bracket, advanced past the third round with a dominant straight-set victory over Evgeny Donskoy on Thrusday, 6-1, 6-1. Unfortunately, Johnson and teammate Jack Sock fell in the men’s doubles semifinals right after that match, losing to Florin Mergea and Horia Tecau in straight sets.
In non-American action, both of the top remaining men’s seeds, Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal, advanced on Thursday. Nadal took down Gilles Simon in straight sets, 7-6(5), 6-3, while Murray needed an extra set to best Fabio Fognini, but he got it done, 6-1, 2-6, 6-3. Juan Martin Del Potro, the man who took down Novak Djokovic in the first round, advanced past the third round with a three-set win over Taro Daniel.
