Rio 2016 tennis: Time, TV schedule and live stream for Friday

Madison Keys and Steve Johnson are still alive in singles play in Rio.

The United States has some big matches on the schedule as far as the sport of tennis at the Rio Olympics is concerned. While the competition overall has been a huge disappointment thanks to the elimination of its best players, many have held on and have a chance to earn a medal, even if gold seems so far away.

Bravo will televise all the tennis action on Friday, beginning at 11 a.m. ET, with NBC Sports providing online streaming of the matches.

One chance at hardware comes in the men’s doubles division, where Steve Johnson and Jack Sock are playing Vasek Pospisil and Daniel Nestor of Canada in a bronze medal match. Johnson will also be competing in the men’s singles quarterfinals, where he is the 12th seed, but he has a tough outing against No. 2 Andy Murray. Johnson has made it further than expected, but getting past Murray would be the toughest win of his career.

In mixed doubles quarterfinals, the team of Venus Williams and Rajeev Ram will be playing Roberta Vinci and Fabio Fognini of Italy, while the team of Jack Sock and Bethanie Mattek-Sands will face off against Brazil’s Teliana Pereira and Marcelo Melo.

And finally, Madison Keys, the No. 7 seed in the women’s singles bracket, has made it all the way to the semifinals there. She will be taking on Angelique Kerber, the second seed and favorite in that bracket since Serena Williams was eliminated. Keys gives the US an outside chance at a women’s singles medal, which seemed very unlikely when the Williams sisters went out.
