Rio 2016 tennis: Petra Kvitova vs. Monica Puig time, TV schedule and live stream

Petra Kvitova and Monica Puig will face off in a women’s singles semifinals matchup at Rio on Friday.

Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports

Petra Kvitova, the 11th seed in the women’s singles bracket at the 2016 Rio Olympics, has had an up-and-down career but at 26 years old, is looking at the chance of Olympic hardware to go with her two Grand Slam singles victories. Kvitova is set to play in a quarterfinal matchup against Monica Puig on Friday.

Kvitova and Puig will go first on Centre Court on Friday, with play scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. ET. The match will be broadcast by Bravo and NBC Sports will have live streams available online.

Kvitova, representing the Czech Republic, took the title at Wimbledon in 2011 and again in 2014, and has made it to the semifinals of two other Grand Slam tournaments. But with Serena Williams, the top seed, out of the picture, it’s any woman’s game when it comes to Olympic gold in singles competition.

The winner of Kvitova vs. Puig will face off against either Madison Keys of the United States or Angelique Kerber of Germany, the favorite to win as the tournament’s second seed.

Puig, 22, is representing Puerto Rico and has never ranked higher than 33 in the world in singles competition. She’s a huge underdog, especially this deep into the bracket, and will not be favored in any remaining match. But she has dropped just 14 games in four matches and only four in her last two matches.
