The second seed in the women’s singles bracket, Angelique Kerber of Germany, has made it all the way to the finals and can secure a gold medal for herself and her country on Saturday at the 2016 Rio Olympics. But she will not be facing a top seed, or any seed at all for that matter. Her opponent is unseeded Puerto Rican Monica Puig.
Rio 2016 tennis: Angelique Kerber vs. Monica Puig time, TV schedule and live stream for women’s gold medal match
Monica Puig will try and defeat Angelique Kerber to earn an improbable gold medal for Puerto Rico on Saturday.

The 3 p.m. PT match will be televised by Bravo, and streamed online by NBC Sports.
Serena Williams, the top seed and favorite, fell in the third round while her sister, Venus Williams, fell on the opening day. The final American woman, Madison Keys, made it all the way to the semifinals, but she lost to Kerber on Friday and will compete in the bronze medal match against No. 11 Petra Kvitova.
Kvitova faced Puig in the other semifinal, and though she pushed her opponent to three sets, she did not get the win. Now either the Czech Republic or the United States will earn the bronze, while Germany battles Puerto Rico for the gold.
As to who should be favored, it’s obviously Kerber. The German won the Australian Open earlier this year, and when it comes to the head to head, has beaten Puig both times the two have played each other. The first was on the hard courts of Brisbane in 2013 and the second was on the same surface, at the Canadian Masters in 2015.
The two obviously do not have much experience playing each other. Kerber has experienced a late career resurgence and has looked dominant throughout the Olympics, but Puig is clearly playing the best tennis of her career and anything can happen when the two meet in Saturday’s final.
