Olympics 2016 tennis results and scores: Andy Murray, Juan Martin del Potro advance to singles finals

Murray and del Potro will face off for the gold medal in the men’s singles bracket on Sunday.

The men’s singles final at the 2016 Rio Olympics is now set, as No. 2 seed Andy Murray and Juan Martin del Potro advanced past the semifinals on Saturday.

Murray, the favorite to win gold since Novak Djokovic was upset in the very first round of the tournament, dominated fourth seed Kei Nishikori in the first men’s semifinal on Saturday. Murray bested Nishikori in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. The other semifinal was much closer, with Rafael Nadal taking the first set and del Potro taking the second before it came down to a tiebreak in the third.

del Potro’s Olympics run started off on the right foot when he, an unseeded player, knocked off Djokovic in the first round. The 2009 US Open winner has played some of the best tennis of his career in Rio. He’ll look to continue that play in the finals against Murray.

That means Nadal and Nishikori will play each other in the bronze medal match on Sunday.

In the women’s bronze medal match, Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic managed to take down Madison Keys of the United States. Keys was the last hope for the United States to earn a medal in the women’s singles bracket, as both Serena Williams and Venus Williams were eliminated early on in the tournament.

The gold medal match between Angelique Kerber and Monica Puig is set for later on Saturday. The US is still going in mixed doubles action as well, with Venus Williams and Rajeev Ram facing the team of Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna in a semifinals match. In the other semifinal, Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Jack Sock are taking on Lucie Hradecka and Radek Stepanek.
