The United States took home their only gold medal in tennis of this year’s Olympics, which was expected given the fact that the final featured two American teams. The finals of the mixed doubles bracket saw Jack Sock and Bethanie Mattek-Sands take on the team of Rajeev Ram and Venus Williams, with the former team winning, 6-7(3), 6-1, 10-7.
Olympics 2016 tennis results and scores: USA wins mixed doubles gold, silver medals
Tennis at the Olympics is officially done, with Andy Murray winning singles gold on Sunday.

That means Ram and Williams took home the silver medal, while earlier in the day the team of Lucie Hradecka and Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic bested the team of Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna of India in the bronze medal match.
For the US, it was a positive end to a tennis competition that was nearly disastrous in all. Venus and Serena Williams, favorites in doubles and singles play, were eliminated from all brackets but mixed doubles by the third round. Steve Johnson was the only American man to advance in singles competition beyond the first day though he lost in the quarterfinals.
Madison Keys made it all the way to the semifinals in the women’s bracket, but there she fell to Angelique Kerber, and then she lost to Petra Kvitova in the bronze medal match. The men’s doubles bronze medal did go to the team of Sock and Johnson, however.
Also on Sunday, the team of Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina of Russia took the women’s doubles gold medals, besting the Switzerland team of Timea Bacsinszky and Martina Hingis. In men’s singles action, Kei Nishikori defeated Rafael Nadal for the bronze medal.
The gold medal match saw No. 2 seed Andy Murray take on the unseeded Juan Martin Del Potro. Murray took down Del Potro, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 to earn the gold.
