Roger Federer won the 2017 Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the year and his first Grand Slam title since 2012. Injuries and old age have played a part in Federer’s decline in recent years, and 2016 was especially bad in that vein. He entered the Australian Open as the 17th seed.

But he outlasted top seeds Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic, and he met a familiar rival in the final: Rafael Nadal. The ninth seed, Nadal also had a bad 2016 due to multiple injuries, but both players played some of the best tennis of their careers to make it all the way to the final.

There, they fought a five-set battle that ultimately ended in favor of Federer, giving him his fifth ever Australian Open title and his 18th Grand Slam singles title. Federer beat Nadal, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.

Below is a full bracket, schedule and results, updated daily throughout the tournament.

Viewing information

The schedule for the Australian Open is nearly identical to how it has been in recent years. For those in the United States, it can be a tricky major to follow, with matches beginning late in the evening and running until the morning of the following day. Unless stated otherwise, times ascribed to dates in the evening which end in the morning are ending the following day.

Through the first three rounds, play will begin around 9 p.m. ET on one day and will end around 7 a.m. the following day. “Monday” at the Australian Open is Monday proper for those in Melbourne, but begins on Sunday evening for those in the United States, with play wrapping up on Monday morning.

ESPN will handle television coverage of the tournament between its flagship network and ESPN 2, and live streams of all men’s and women’s singles matches will be available live via WatchESPN. Below is the full schedule for the tournament.
