Women’s second seed Serena Williams seems poised to take the 2017 Australian Open, as she has been playing excellent tennis and cruised into the semifinals with a dominant win over ninth seed Johanna Konta on Wednesday.
2017 Australian Open results and bracket: Serena Williams cruises to semifinals
The Williams sisters are both in the semifinals of the 2017 Australian Open.

Williams is the highest-remaining seed as Angelique Kerber was upset in the fourth round of competition. Williams is going for her 23rd Grand Slam singles title, which would elevate her above Steffi Graf for the most of any woman in the Open Era.
On Wednesday, Williams beat Konta in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
Williams will go on to the semifinals where she faces a surprise opponent in Mirana Lucic-Baroni. It’s a surprise because Lucic-Baroni is unseeded, and because she bested fifth seed Karolina Pliskova on Wednesday.
The other women’s semifinal is already set, and will feature No. 13 seed Venus Williams up against the unseeded Coco Vandeweghe.
On the men’s side, ninth seeded Rafael Nadal advanced to the semifinals with a 6-4, 7-6(7), 6-4 victory over third seeded Milos Raonic. The victory marked Nadal’s 50th win in a Grand Slam event.
Fifteenth seed Grigor Dimitrov punched his ticket into the semifinals to face Nadal with a dominant straight-set victory over David Goffin, the 11th seed. Dimitrov won the match, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.
The other men’s semifinal will be between fourth seed Stan Wawrinka and 17th seed Roger Federer.
