Stan Wawrinka vs. Rafael Nadal French Open 2017: Time, TV schedule and live stream for men’s final

Stan Wawrinka has beaten Rafael Nadal just three times in 18 meetings between the two. On Sunday, he’ll try and make it four while preventing the Spaniard from winning his 10th French Open title and in the process give him just his third ever loss on the clay of Roland Garros.

It is perhaps the tallest ask in all of sports. Nadal simply doesn’t lose at the French Open — from the title he won in his debut at 18 years old in 2005 to the one he won most recently in 2014. He’ll try and become the first player to win 10 titles at a single slam on Sunday.

The match will begin at 9 a.m. ET and will be broadcast by NBC in the United States. It will also be live streamed online via NBC Sports and on the NBC Sports app on smartphones and other devices.

Wawrinka knows what it feels like to raise La Coupe des Mousquetaires — The Musketeers’ Trophy — having won it in 2015. He’s also won the title at the Australian Open and the US Open, so he’s no stranger to pressure at this level.

But no pressure is like the pressure that Nadal puts on his opponents at Roland Garros. He lost to Robin Soderling while dealing with injuries and off-court issues in 2009, and he lost to a dominant Novak Djokovic two years ago. That was part of Djokovic’s dominant run through men’s tennis.

Speaking of Djokovic, he fell to the young Dominic Thiem in the quarterfinals. That same Thiem, who gave Djokovic one of the most lopsided beatings of his career, had no answers for Nadal in the semifinals, losing in straight sets.

Wawrinka has played Nadal 18 times, last winning at the Paris Masters in 2015. He also beat Nadal at the Australian Open in 2014, in the finals no less. The most significant win as it relates to Sunday’s matchup, though, came on the clay of the 2015 Rome Masters, where Wawrinka won in straight sets.

Beating Nadal on any clay surface is an achievement. Since then, Nadal has beaten Wawrinka on the clay surface, in their last meeting in Monte Carlo last year. Wawrinka’s Australian Open win came in four sets.
