Rafael Nadal has now won 10 French Open titles, the most titles at a single Grand Slam event of any player in history. Nadal took down Stan Wawrinka in the finals at Roland Garros in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, 6-1.

Nadal took down Stan Wawrinka in three sets in the men’s final at the French Open on Sunday.

Nadal entered Sunday’s match as the fourth seed and the favorite. He’s been the favorite throughout the tournament, as he’s only ever lost two matches on the clay of the French Open.
Wawrinka nearly scored an early break on Nadal’s second service game. He got the point to deuce and had Nadal on the ropes, but some brilliant serving from the Spaniard fought it off to keep things on serve.
Nadal immediately put Wawrinka in the same position on the next game. It went to deuce six times and the game went over nine minutes before Wawrinka ultimately held. Nadal held serve fine, and then he scored the first break of the match with a dominant forehand return game. Another hold and then another break gave Nadal the first set.
In the first set, Nadal won on 82 percent of his first serves and 67 percent of his second serves. He had just eight unforced errors and hit 10 winners.
The second set was much more slanted toward Nadal from the onset. Nadal scored an early break and held serve without issue to go up 3-0. He wound up taking the second set having won 89 percent of his first serves.
The third set was more of the same, and Nadal dominated it. He broke Wawrinka multiple times and made short work of him, dropping only a single game over the course of the set.
With Jelena Ostapenko winning the women’s singles title, Sunday’s match between Nadal and Wawrinka wraps up the French Open and the clay court season. Everyone will now look forward to grass courts and, of course, Wimbledon.
