Andy Murray continued his very strong play at the 2017 French Open by cementing his place in the top eight on Monday. Murray took on the unseeded Karen Khachanov for his Round of 16 matchup and won it in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.

Murray advances to the quarterfinals where he’ll face Kei Nishikori, the eighth seed. It will be his toughest test of the tournament, but he’s played much better than most expected. Nishikori made it past unseeded Fernando Verdasco on Monday.

Third seed Stan Wawrinka was also in action on Monday, and he made it to the top eight with a big win over No. 15 Gael Monfils. Wawrinka won the match in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6(7), 6-2. Wawrinka will be taking on Marin Cilic, the seventh seed, in the next round.

Cilic made it past Kevin Anderson, who was forced to retire, on Monday.

On the women’s side, Simona Halep made short work of her toughest competition thus far in Carla Suarez Navarro. Halep, the third seed and a popular pick by experts, beat Navarro, the 21st seed, in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.

Elina Svitolina, the fifth seed, took down Petra Martic in straight sets on Monday, 4-6, 6-3, -5. Svitolina and Halep are both into the quarterfinals, and they will face each other there.
