Simona Halep and Jelena Ostapenko will meet in the women’s singles finals at the 2017 French Open. Ostapenko, an unseeded player, took down No. 30 Timea Bacsinszky in her semifinal matchup, winning, 7-6(4), 3-6, 6-3. In the other semifinal, Halep bested No. 2 Karolina Pliskova, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

Ostapenko and Bacsinszky combined for a back-and-forth match that saw surges from both players. Ostapenko won despite having 43 unforcd errors to Bacsinszky’s 19. They had very similar stats in serve percentage and aces, but Ostapenko hit more winners with 50 against Bacsinszky’s 22.

Halep, the third seed, was a popular pick by experts prior to the start of the French Open. She proved herself by beating the second seed on Thursday, too. It wasn’t a pretty match, with her missing out on nine of her 12 break-point attempts. She had just 14 unforced errors though, compared to Pliskova’s 55.

Halep and Ostapenko will face each other in the women’s final on Saturday.

The mixed doubles final also took place on Thursday. The match saw the pairing of Gabriela Dabrowski and Rohan Bopanna best the team of Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Robert Farah. Dabrowski and Bopanna entered the match against the seventh seeds, and won, 2-6, 6-2 [12-10].

The men’s singles semifinals will take place on Friday. Top seed Andy Murray will take on third seed Stan Wawrinka in the first one. The other features fourth seed Rafael Nadal and sixth seed Dominic Thiem.
