The women’s semifinals at the 2017 US Open will begin on Thursday, and they should be very, very interesting. For the first time since 1985, four American women advanced to the semifinals of a Grand Slam. Those four are Venus Williams, Sloane Stephens, Madison Keys and CoCo Vandeweghe.

Venus Williams will take on Sloane Stephens while CoCo Vandeweghe will face Madison Keys in the all-American women’s semifinals at the US Open on Thursday.

They will be in action in primetime, beginning at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN. Both matches will be played in that broadcast, and live streaming of both will be available, as usual, via WatchESPN and the ESPN App.
Keys, the 15th seed, will be taking on Vandeweghe, the 20th seed. Williams, the ninth seed, will face Stephens, an unseeded player due to her recent injury woes.
Keys is coming off a win over Kaia Kanepi on Wednesday, while Vandeweghe scored a dominant win over top seed Karolina Pliskova earlier in the day. Williams took down the tough Petra Kvitova in her quarterfinal on Tuesday, while Stephens made it through 16th seed Anastasija Sevastova.
The last time four American women made it to the semifinals at the US Open was 1981, and not since 2002 — when five of the top eight players were American — have they been this prominent. Serena Williams has largely carried American tennis for years, but all of Vandeweghe, Keys and Stephens are young and promising.
