The first Grand Slam of 2018 is just about here in the Australian Open from Melbourne. The live draw for both women’s and men’s singles brackets was held on Thursday evening (local time, which translates to Thursday morning in the United States).
Australian Open 2018 draw: Men’s and women’s brackets announced
The first Grand Slam of 2018 is nearly here, and we’ve got the men’s and women’s singles brackets.

The projected women’s quarterfinals are Simona Halep vs. Karolina Pliskova, Garbine Muguruza vs. Caroline Garcia, Venus Williams vs. Elina Svitolina and Jelena Ostapoenko vs. Caroline Wozniacki.
The projected men’s quarterfinals are Rafael Nadal vs. Marin Cilic, Grigor Dimitrov vs. Jack Sock, Dominic Thiem vs. Alexander Zverev and David Goffin vs. Roger Federer.
Venus will open against Belinda Bencic, a tough go for her first matchup. Halep, the top seed for the women (and who has yet to win a Grand Slam title) will open against Destanee Aiava. Nadal will open against Victor Estrella Burgos of the Dominican Republic. Federer will take on Aljaz Bedene in his opener.
Nadal seems to have an easier path through to the finals with Cilic, Sock, Dimitrov, and Nick Kyrgios in his half of the draw. Federer, on the other hand, has Novak Djokovic, Juan Martin Del Potro, Goffiin, and Zverev to contend with in his half.
Serena Williams, Andy Murray, Kei Nishikori and Victoria Azarenka are all big-name players who won’t be participating in the Australian Open this year. Williams is obviously the biggest name there and is not yet ready for Grand Slam competition following the birth of her child.
The official Australian Open website is currently updating with the full draw, but the link for both brackets can be found here. In the meantime, you can see the quarters below.
