Simona Halep and Roger Federer have earned their places in the semifinals at the 2018 Australian Open.

Halep’s bid for her first-ever Grand Slam title is going strong, despite a near miss marathon match in the third round. On Tuesday, Halep downed the sixth seed, Karolina Pliskova, in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.

Halep advances to the semifinals where she will face Angelique Kerber, the No. 21 seed. Kerber is coming off a straight sets win over Madison Keys, the 17th seeded American, 6-1, 6-2.

Federer, the men’s second seed and currently the highest-remaining seed after Rafael Nadal’s ousting, managed to defeat Tomas Berdych, the 19th seed, Tuesday. Federer won the match in straight sets, 7-6(1), 6-3, 6-4.

Federer’s quest for a 20th Grand Slam title is going extremely well, as he has rarely been challenged through five rounds of play in this year’s tournament.

Finally, the brilliant run of the unseeded American, Tennys Sandgren, came to an end when the equally brilliant run of Hyeon Chung continued. Chung is also unseeded, and downed Sandgren in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6(5), 6-3.

Chung was coming off a huge win over Novak Djokovic, a Grand Slam winner and the 14th seed. Sandgren was coming off a five-set thriller against the fifth seed, Dominic Thiem, and may have been a little drained on Tuesday.
